Sun VP Gary Beck discusses the launch of the Sun SPARC Enterprise servers. These new systems include upgrades to the Sun Fire array of SMP servers and Chip Multi-Threading (CMT) CoolThreads servers.
According to Beck, Sun customers who rely on SMP hardware can now get numerous mainframe RAS (reliability, availability, serviceability) features for better consolidation. Move from SPARC IV+ systems towards the next generation of Rock/Supernova CMT servers Sun plans to release in 2009.
