Developers and end-users alike are discovering how rich clients based on the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor aid application development, especially for Web services. These client systems have the headroom to handle numerous foreground and background tasks simultaneously without impacting system responsiveness. The processor can manage multiple workloads involving high-bandwidth communications, massive data processing, and sophisticated application features.

The Intel Pentium 4 processor was designed for this type of multitasking. It features a 400-MHz system bus that moves data in and out of the processor as much as three times faster than the Intel Pentium III processor. The business value of XML Web services is significantly enhanced by rich clients based on the Intel Pentium 4 processors, because these clients provide the power required for consistent, scalable, automated business processes.

This article explains how Web services work, why you should embrace them, and why the Pentium 4 processor is ideal for distributed solutions.
