Innovative Outreach Builds Momentum for Multi-Core Development Globally

Intel continues to bring the knowledge, tools, and training to the software community that will help unlock the opportunities offered by multi-core processing. Two recent developments of interest: an Intel community center being constructed (of bits) on an island in the virtual world, Second Life*, and the more concrete realm of the Intel® Software Products labs, where the latest version of Intel® Threading Building Blocks takes the rough edges off writing scalable parallel programs.

Intel Avatars Preparing to Greet the Software Community

The vibrant creativity and richly rendered, three-dimensional surroundings of Second Life will become an inviting haven for the software community, where Second Life members can interact with Intel experts, grow a community, and learn multi-threading techniques. Paul Steinberg of Intel® Software College, who is deeply involved in the design of the center, says, “What a lot of other people offer in Second Life is a pretty building with nothing in it. We are striving to make sure that there is a real there there. Intel is able to provide a training solution for developers, for the enterprise, and for the industry: we have chips, we have our platform technologies, we have our tools, we have our expertise, and we have our consultants. We are able to extend value through this whole ecosystem. We want to make our site on Second Life do the same thing.” Design an avatar for yourself and meet the members of this unique Second Life community in May 2007. When not touring virtual worlds, you can gain a firmer footing in threading techniques using Intel Threading Building Blocks, as described next.
