Success Brief: Caja Madrid Cuts Paper with Intel Centrino Mobile Technology-Based Digital Office

As the fourth largest financial group in Spain, ensuring high levels of employee productivity and efficiency across its 75 regional offices and to the 1900 branch offices is critical to Caja Madrid’s continued success and growth. With an established focus on technology innovation and corporate social responsibility, Caja Madrid introduced the ‘Zero Paper Project’ to realise its vision of implementing a digital office environment. Recognising the potential productivity and cost benefits of re-engineering manual processes with an electronic paperless solution, the project was designed to drive improved working processes while supporting Caja Madrid’s efforts in preserving the environment.

Having evaluated a range of options to replace notepads, the financial group equipped over 300 employees with Intel® Centrino® mobile technology-based tablet PCs, delivering wireless access to electronic files and mission-critical enterprise information via a WLAN environment across both the headquarters & main corporate buildings. The high-performance Intel® technology-based tablets were selected as the ideal replacement for paper, allowing users to quickly and efficiently take notes on the tablet and convert written script to typed text while providing online connectivity for accessing and uploading data in centralised systems. Jesus Iniesta, Mobility Manager, Caja Madrid states, “Intel Centrino mobile technology-based tablets deliver the high performance and battery-life we need to replace paper notepads, and the small form-factor allows them to be easily transportable.” While Caja Madrid is currently implementing a series of measures and steps to transform the work habits of employees, it expects to achieve a 15-25% increase in productivity by reducing the downtime employees spend searching for documents and paperwork. In addition to the environmental benefits of paper reduction, significant savings will be made to Caja Madrid’s bottom-line expenditure.
