Summary
The synchronization of the information that uniquely describes a product or service exchanged between trading partners is fundamental to building collaborative commercial relationships among retailers, manufacturers, and other supply chain participants. Global data synchronization (GDS) is important for two related but independent reasons:
- GDS leads to consolidation and management of master product data, which greatly increases internal supply chain efficiency.
- GDS is a fundamental building block for realizing the true potential of RFID and EPC technologies.
The linkage and value between the two comes from the fact that having clean master data leads to more efficient and accurate associations between EPC codes and products.
