Healthcare Solution Brief: Meeting Crucial Needs in Healthcare With RFID

Fundamental Improvements that Answer Major Challenges

Two key sectors in the healthcare system — hospitals and drug manufacturers — each face their own major challenge. For hospitals, the growing complexity of care delivery has multiplied the rate of preventable errors, many of which are fatal and all of which are directly counter to the hospital’s mission. For pharmaceutical companies, drug counterfeiting has grown to a severe level, endangering both consumer safety and some of the world’s most valuable product brands. In addition to these threats, unrelenting cost pressures in both sectors demand significant increases in efficiency.

In both, radio frequency identification (RFID) solutions are emerging as a key technology to meeting the present challenges. For hospitals, RFID capabilities are being used to fundamentally improve workflows. For drug manufacturers and distributors, RFID is being recognized by many — including the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) — as the technology with the greatest promise to control the threat posed by drug counterfeiters.

Intel has been at the forefront of real-world, large-scale, complex RFID implementations in many settings and industries, including within our own facilities. With a deep commitment to healthcare and digital health solutions, Intel goes beyond supplying building blocks and computing platforms by working with industry partners, setting industry direction and helping customers in the Life Sciences transform.
