Intel is working with Microsoft* to deliver an integrated, validated desktop PC solution that makes it easier for information technology (IT) departments to manage their PCs. Desktop PCs with Intel® vPro™ technology include powerful new hardware-based capabilities that improve remote manageability and security. Based on new 64-bit, dual-core processors, these PCs deliver exceptional performance for Windows Vista,* as well as integrated graphics support for Windows Vista* Aero, a visual user experience designed to help users find, view, and organize information. At the same time, Windows Vista delivers new features that simplify configuration management, improve management of PCs from a central location, and decrease the cost of updates.

When used together, Windows Vista and PCs with Intel vPro technology help reduce IT costs, while meeting the needs of business users who must manage information among multiple applications.

Today's challenges

One of the main challenges in maximizing a corporation's investment in desktop PCs is performing critical IT tasks without interfering with users. In today's business environments, an increasing number of background applications are necessary to run a business. For example, today's desktop PCs need to deliver the performance to run searches, manageability software, virus scans, antispyware, email synchronization, back-ups, and even the sustained loads of Voice over IP (VoIP) in the background, without interfering with users. At the same time, IT managers must focus on compliance with corporate policies, decreasing user downtime, and protecting systems more against increasingly sophisticated threats and malicious software attacks. For example, there are an increasing number of software-based attacks launched against businesses by criminals with a profit motive.
