Welcome to the Intel® Software Dispatch Subscription Program
In 2005, Adobe was preparing a major update to its nonlinear video editing application, Adobe Premiere Pro*, the heart of its suite of tools for filmmakers and videographers. To meet the evolving needs of this core audience and capitalize on the capabilities of the newest computing platforms, Adobe wanted the next version of Premiere Pro to support new, higher-resolution formats becoming increasingly popular. Another goal was to enhance the overall performance of the application to deliver maximum flexibility, control, and responsiveness to professional editors.
Adobe turned to Intel and its unique integrated platform expertise for guidance in solving some of the very tough challenges that working with high-definition video streams impose, such as rapid input/output and manipulation of very large data sets. Adobe wanted to ensure that their products took the utmost advantage of the capabilities of the latest platforms from Intel to provide maximum value to end users. Adobe and Intel collaborated to identify key areas that would have the most significant impact on user experience, and then Intel worked with Adobe in these areas to optimize performance, through the application of Intel® software products, technical expertise, and software resources. This collaboration was an important element in Adobe’s process for delivering high-end, high-performance software that provides maximum end user value.
Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0*, released in January 2006, is now gaining rave reviews in the marketplace1 as a world-class desktop video editing tool in a tightly integrated suite of related applications.
Meeting the challenges of high-definition video
Working with the emerging high-resolution digital video formats—including high-definition (HD) and beyond—imposes new demands on the systems that filmmakers and post-production professionals use for capturing, storing, and editing footage. As the resolution of acquisition systems increases to capture and store many more pixels, the compute resources and sustained data throughput requirements for editing increase exponentially thanks to the two-dimensional nature of the source data. The interactive and nonlinear nature of the editing process requires that the editor be able to preview changes, which means that the editing software must be able to modify and render images quickly without significant loss of resolution.
